ACADEMY DEVELOPMENT RECREATION LEAGUE- FUNDAMENTAL PHASE U6–U8
‘Me and my ball.’
At the fundamental phase there are generally few differences in the players capabilities in terms of their motor, cognitive, and social development. Particular attention should be focused on motor movements and coordination in areas of running, changing speed and direction, jumping, landing, and even basic rolling and tumbling. This awakens their bodies as it relates to the game and the ball. Individual and small group play, centered on ‘play like’ activities are essential for both maximal touches on the ball and the ability to learn at one’s own pace.
“The coach should be able to be child-like, but not childish.”
Dr. Tom Fleck, coach and leader of youth soccer development in the United States
